Pisces (20 February- 20
March): Mutable Water Sign

Everything
about this sign is watery; the fish, the element and the fact that Neptune god
of the seas is ruler of Pisces. So to really understand this we need to imagine
that we are under water. Sound becomes distorted, so that judging distance is
difficult and no matter how clear the water is, we can never see quite as
clearly as on land. This, then is what life is like for a Pisces. Nothing is
ever clear, simple, black or white. Life is much more about sensing what is
going on. At times things can get quite confusing as Pisces tries to make sense
of the world.
One of the
reasons for this confusion is that Pisceans are very sensitive. They can feel
what everyone else is feeling and this can make decisions very difficult. If you
know what everyone around you is feeling then it is hard to do things which they
might find hurtful. Sometimes Pisceans find it difficult to tell which feelings
are their own and which come from someone else. It’s not uncommon to find
themselves feeling depressed or drained and get home wondering why, only to
realise they’ve picked up these feelings from spending the afternoon with
someone who was very negative.
The symbol of
the fish was often used by early Christians to symbolise Christ and this sign
does have the reputation for being very self- sacrificing. ‘No’ is not a word
easily said by Pisceans. They don’t want to upset or disappoint anyone; in fact
they would rather be helpful and spend their time trying to rescue other people.
This is why Pisceans are often found in caring professions.
The link
between early Christians and the symbol of the fish is also apt because this is
a sign associated with mysticism. Pisceans are often interested in investigating
matters to do with spirituality, religion, astrology, etc. They have an ability
to see divinity in everyone and so are predisposed to give everyone the benefit
of the doubt. This means that they sometimes feel gullible and disillusioned,
usually because they put their trust in someone they thought was perfect and
have just found out that they were wrong. One of the most difficult things for
Pisceans is to be realistic about people, and life in general.
Reality can be
quite ugly and Pisceans prefer to deal with the beautiful and ideal. They need
daily opportunities to escape from the uglier aspects of life. Fantasy is one
way in which they can escape, either watching a good film or becoming immersed
in a good book. Creative activities, like painting, photography, dancing,
composing or even just listening to music are all good ways to re-establish
faith in the belief that somehow the world is not as bad as it sometimes seems.
By doing this, a Pisces finds it much easier to continue to float along life’s
currents. Perhaps we all ought to take a leaf out of their book and allow
ourselves to use our imaginations to visualise and create a happier world.
