What is Serendipity?

Serendipity is a magical state, where one accidentally discovers something fortunate, especially while looking for something else entirely. Serendipity is a word that comes from an old Persian fairy tale, whilst today it is recognised as being a major factor in scientific discoveries and inventions.

The acclaimed contemporary American writer, Lawrence Block, described serendipity, as... "look for something, find something else, and realise that what you've found is more suited to your needs than what you thought you were looking for."
